A true communal event.

For a great example of Ghettomation style cartoons, check out BRAD NEELY'S COMICS. Super somple animatic style cartoons but with a super bizarre edge to them. This is R rated stuff, so beware. Check out the amount of hits these cartoons have received. In the hundreds of thousands in some cases. People dig them. Its a perfect example of the strength of CONTENT over animation technique.

If you are thinking of doing a cartoon fill, but don't know the ins and outs yet of animating- check these out and know that you too can become an animation superstar! Just don't forget to learn the fundamentals, too. Important stuff!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had the Ghettomation poster hanging at the DA gallery in downtown Pomona. Now I can finally say I have had art displayed at the DA.

Bob Pece is the artist that lent us his home/gallery/studio to have the event. What a wonderful host he was. We had a full house but Bob made us al feel very at home. It was cool to see how everyone mingled and hung out before and after the show.

I did the kick off intro. You can check out a full wrap up on the Ghettomation podcast (will be posted week of 29th).

Here is an outstanding example of Ghettomation. The LIFE and TIMES of TIM. The animation is purposely simplified and the dialogue and characters (and scenery)serve to make this entertaining to watch. I'm a big fan. This show is on HBO. Just goes to show that writing and pacing can make for animation that people will really get into. I really like the style of this show. The backgrounds and locations are just right. Very simple, funny, and really well executed. Ghett-o-may-shun!

OKEE-DOKEE the CLOWN The animatic film that Jim took to his local public access cable tv station that earned him fame and fortune. Yikes! This shows that with a little determination and naivety, you too can leave a mark on local pop culture. Many people were left speechless as this aired on their tv screens following something like "Home Gardening with Flora" or "Public City Council Meeting Hour". Shake things up!

How to, methods, tips, and other resources to help DIY animated filmmakers realize their artistic goals. Its meant to motivate , educate, and titillate (heheh...I said titillate!) The Seven Sweet Sciences of Ghettomation

Here they are, Seven Sweet Sciences of Ghettomation in all of their glory. These are by no means RULES, just a manifesto of creative guidelines we'd like to share:

1) KEEP THE FLOW: Most important of all...keep your original energy and excitement and CAPTURE it in your work. People can feel the vibe you give off in your films. Go with it. Run with it....HAVE FUN CREATING!

2) CONTENT IS KING:Remember, the CONCEPTS and CONTENT win the audience, not just fancy animation. Ghettomation believes that STYLE goes hand in hand with SUBSTANCE. Abuse neither, but use both!

3) ACTING: Use your art to make the viewer think there is more movement than there really is. Make your characters ACT through dynamic poses, body language, and facial expressions. You'll save time, trouble, and energy by making your characters ACT when drawing.

4) ECONOMIZE: Save your energy for creating. Why do a lot when a little serves the audience just as well. Enjoy the process, but don't kill yourself on the technical aspects. Cheating is fine in Ghettomation.

5) AUDIO-Your ambient sound,music, and sound effects not only COLOR your animation, but build the world your characters live in. The audience is captured with your sound. Thats a basic pilar to build on.

6) RESOURCEFULNESS: Think on the fly. Pull from whatever resources and influences you can to tell a great story and make a cool movie. It doesn't matter HOW you get there, just GET there.

7) SWAGGER: It is what it is. Don't fret about what you DONT have. Celebrate what you DO have. Be confident and have fun with it!

Remeber, we mean Ghetto in the sense of comparing our methods to the huge corporations. We also mean Ghetto in the sense of UNDERGROUND. Were proud that our content is our own unfiltered visions. We create as true artists and we believe WHATEVER WORKS is the right method for us all!
